Allegra von Altrich

Allegra von Altrich is a beautiful 3-4 year-old German Shepherd.  She is one wonderful lady with big, adorable ears.  Allegra was bred and bred and then left at a high kill shelter by her family. We got a call from a shelter volunteer just before she was to be euthanized. Allegra’s former life is still haunting her; people dismiss her in a second because her body is still recovering from years of nursing, litter after litter.  She is looking better but may never have the perfect body! Now that we have gotten to know her, we see that she can be afraid of some men, so a man in her former life must've been mean to her. She did come from a family with children.  She is working with a trainer and doing better, but for now we would love to find a female home for her.  With people she is comfortable,, Allegra is gentle and loving. She loves to explore on her walks and does well on leash (alone or in a pack).  Usually she does well meeting people and dogs along the way.  Sometimes, however, she can be unsure and bark in a new or busy situation, or at new people or dogs.  Allegra has actually become playful with people she knows at the rescue and with dogs in playgroups. She had been watching other dogs at play, and once she decided she wanted to have fun too, there was no looking back.   Can you give this special soul a chance at a much better life?
