Ava von Averlak is a gorgeous 2 year old German Shepherd/Akita mix. She is absolutely stunning, with a lush coat.  She is shy when you first meet her and needs time to warm up to new situations and people.  We can only wonder what Ava’s past life was like, but, due to her uncertainty when encountering new situations, people and dogs, she probably didn’t encounter many new things. Now that she is with Westside, our kennel staff is working to help build her confidence and make her feel at ease when she encounters new situations.  Westside offers several options for continued training that Ava can benefit from with her new family.  Once comfortable with someone she is affectionate and trusting. When walking on leash, Ava stays close to her person but does so nicely.   In playgroups, she goes in with her same cautiousness but does meet the other dogs well.  She does not like pushy dogs and will try to avoid them.  She feels secure and at ease with calmer dogs and enjoys hanging out with them.  Ava needs someone who will allow her time to ease into her new life and environment; we suspect she may be protective of her person(s). She will blossom once she learns that someone is there for her.
