Divot von Derbach is an amazing 4 year old Shepherd mix boy.
Per his foster mom:
Divot is a great, great dog. He is quiet and attentive in the house. Sits by me when I'm working and keeps guard outside the bathroom door when I'm in the shower. At night, he lays down at the foot of my bed and stays there all night. Does not stir in the morning till I get up. If he hears someone outside the door, he will stand alert at the door, but won't bark. On leash, he is good. Likes to walk a little ahead, but will slow his pace with a gentle correction. If I stop, he sits and waits. He is wonderful meeting other dogs. We've had small dogs lunge at him and bark right up in his face, and dogs behind fences come out of nowhere, barking madly, and he is totally non-reactive. He simply pauses before moving on. He is not intimidated by larger dogs, and last weekend at the rescue just sat there while Joey pawed him and chewed his ear. We've had cats run across our path and birds fly off, and he does not chase. He is timid around some strange people, mostly men, but does well if they ignore him so that he can choose to go to them, after which he is fine. He had no issues with the fireworks on the fourth as long as we were inside. He literally jumps for joy and wags his whole body when I come home, and also when it's time for a walk. The only time he makes a peep is one: when he really needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. It's only happened twice - a short whine and a pleading look - but it's very thoughtful of him! And two: when I come home, he is so happy to see me that he cries - happy cries.
