Rocki was purchased from a breeder when she was 7 weeks old. She was taught to shake hands with the left and then the right paw. She knew all her commands in two languages. She even knew how to sing on command. One of our volunteers met Rocki at the shelter, she looked down at a beautifully cared for shepherd with a fancy collar. Rocki was sitting politely next to her owner, our volunteer didn't understand. How could this family be giving up their precious girl? Sadly, it turned out that Rocki had a mammary tumor the size of an orange which had been left too long, the tissue was already necrotic and she needed surgery right away. With no emotion Rocki was left with our volunteer. In a panic one of the volunteers drove around in Friday afternoon traffic going from one vet to another trying to find a surgeon to do her surgery immediately. Rocki has had her surgery and is feeling so much better. She again can enjoy a walk and some attention.The family told the shelter Rocki was 2 years and 1 month, but she is closer to 5 years old. Sadly, we got the results back from the biopsy, the results are "guarded" which isn't good news. We don't know how long Rocki has but she could have several months or a year, but we are praying that someone can love Rocki unconditionally for whatever time she has left. We know it takes a very special person, but we are praying that you are out there waiting for Rocki, to love her and care for her and to show her that there are committed and loving people, who will love you even when you are sick.
